THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR

Well it’s almost here again
That special time of year
When we try so hard to catch up
With those we hold so dear.
We try to keep tradition
Although our lives are changed
There are things we know are different
In fact – have been re-arranged.

We hang the wreath upon our door
And put tinsel on the tree.
The lights are glowing in the window
So that all may see.
We take out our treasured baubles
And memories of days gone by
We become quite wistful
And wipe the tears from our eye.

There are ghostly shadows
Of Christmases now long gone
The times we were together
When the family was one.
There are things we always do
Special things we always make
The Chocolate truffles and the Cheese Ball
And of course – the Christmas cake.

Christmas in Australia ~
Quite different I am told
No crackling, smoking Yule log
For it is anything but cold.
Carols by Candlelight
On a blanket in the park.
Waiting to light the candles
Waiting for the dark.

Underneath the Southern Cross
On a glorious summer night
We keep our Australian tradition
And we know that it is right.
You have your winter and your snow
While we bask on sunlit sands
Difficult for you to understand
Who come from different lands.

But when all is said and done
And we go back to the reason
It is no different where we live
Why we celebrate the season.
So as this Christmas time approaches
And you take the time apart
Just know that you are special
In a corner of my heart.
